Mission

The Technology department leads in initiating and enabling programs and services through innovative solutions that facilitate learning, business initiatives, and productivity across academic, administrative, and community functions.

Overview

The department is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and monitoring computerized processing systems to improve instructional and administrative operations of the district. The Technology Department is also responsible for providing service and support to campuses and administrative offices in the acquisition and use of technology to enhance student learning and achievement, ensure the availability of information to all groups and individuals, provide timely and accurate information about students, and provide quality support services.

Areas

The Technology Department consists of four Areas that work together to deliver a high quality support and service structure:
  • Strategic Planning

Strategic planning allows the Technology Department to respond to emerging trends, events, challenges and opportunities within the framework of technology. Campuses must plan for the use of new and emerging technologies and infrastructure with the resources to support them. Carefully considering current trends is a good way to identify and plan for future trends.

The department develops strategies to address issues, timelines, and resources to work with teachers and staff of the district in supporting the goal of increasing student achievement.

  • Software and Applications
  • The Technology Department works to effectively and efficiently find, implement, manage, and maintain computer systems using best-practice management tools and techniques in support of the District’s vision “to educate and prepare students to become productive citizens and lifelong learners who value excellence and integrity.”

  • Networking
  • The Technology Department is committed to supporting HISD’s educational goals by specifying, developing, implementing, managing, and supporting complex computer networks and District-wide application systems (Skyward, Destiny, Shoretel, Scholastic, Exchange Email, websites, etc.) to fulfill District and campus educational goals.

  • Technical Support and Training
  • The Technology Department provides technical and assistance to any HISD employee with problems related to workstation hardware and software failures, Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) failures, Shoretel Phone system failures, Skyward and Microsoft Office productivity tools, Internet, and other application and system problems. The Technology Department provides a variety of services to HISD employees, including workorder submission support, email support, phone support, and one-on-one support.
