Though the campus is titled “Henderson Kindergarten,” it also serves students in the Head Start program and the Pre-Kindergarten program.
The building that houses Henderson Kindergarten was originally built in 1935 as Hill High School, the first high school in Rusk County that served the African-American community. After serving as Hill High for many years, the school was converted to Hill Intermediate and served sixth and seventh grade until a tragic fire in the mid-1970s destroyed one of the wings of the campus. After a few years serving seventh grade only, the campus was converted to Henderson Kindergarten.
